About Backdrop Sessions

Let us tell you a bit about Backdrop Sessions!

Founded in 2015, Backdrop Sessions is a collaborative project that offers an intimate look into the minds and studios of Whistler’s local artists.

So far, we have visited and documented nine artists in their home studios, learning about and sharing their individual inspirations, processes, influences and stories. The goal of Backdrop Sessions has always been to allow local artists to share the daily realities of their creative work; elements that do not always come across in a gallery or museum setting.

Facilitator and Interviewer: Andrea Mueller

Andrea is based in Whistler, BC. Her work is characterized by bold colours, messy loose brush strokes and darkly playful imagery. Her work examines the relationship and connection between all things including humans,

animals, memory, language, belief systems, the environment and the impact these have on one another. She experiments with different types of materials and often incorporates found objects into her works.

Andrea Mueller was born in Markham, Ontario. She graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 2002. After living in Toronto for several years she moved to Whistler in 2004.

Filming and Editing: Ryan Regehr

Ryan Regehr finished film school at BCIT in 2008. He spent the next few years traveling around the northwest covering events ranging from World Freestyle Motocross Championships to local events like Crankworx and the

World Ski and Snowboard Festival.  Ryan moved back to Whistler full time in 2011 and has since been producing videos for clients such as Whistler Blackcomb, GMC, Nintendo, and Red Bull.

Ryan’s experience in marketing and sales as well as his background in acting and directing allows him to create videos that are both interesting and that help his clients connect with their audience.
