Thank you for joining us online for the 2020 Anonymous Art Show!
COVID-19 created a challenge for us – we had to transform our Anonymous Art Show Buying Night into an online experience that would be just as memorable (and nutty!) as the in-person night at the Arts Centre. We did just that as 318 people joined us for the live-streamed Buying Night on September 18 Buying Night. We had people join us from locations across Canada, the United States and even Europe. The event was filled with fraught decision-making, friendly banter and LOTS of laughter. The community support and positive response we have received has been incredible – thank you for sharing your experiences with us.
New this year was a $500 FIRST CHIOCE spot which was sold almost immediately after advance art sales opened. The first piece of art to come off the wall this year was a lovely piece done by Whistler artist Doria Moodie. Congrats Doria!
Other highlights include the debut of our first male “Vanna”, Tom Graham (we’re an equal opportunity kinda place). Tom, with “Vanna” Suzanne Gibson, were the tallest Vannas we have ever had, glittering in their gold tuxes as they took your art off the walls on Buying Night.
Thank you to all Anonymous Art Show 2020 artists, sponsors, community supporters and Arts Whistler’s year-round funders – because of you Whistler has a thriving arts and culture scene. More than 240 artists were involved in this show, with 333 pieces on The Gallery walls. After an amazing online buying night, and a few more weeks of sales, 217 pieces of art found new homes on the walls of our wonderful art buyers – THANK YOU!
In total, this fundraiser will contribute $12, 800 to help fund Arts Whistler’s community arts programs and the purchase of new theatre equipment.
Thank you for supporting the Anonymous Art Show and thanks again to our event sponsors: Sushi Village, Beedie Living and Race and Company.
If you didn’t get a chance to see the show, you can still check out this cool virtual tour.
At Arts Whistler, our goal is to foster Whistler’s arts and culture scene by supporting and presenting our impressive artists, while providing accessible opportunities for the whole community to explore their creative potential through programs like the Anonymous Art Show.
We hope to see everyone back (in person) in 2021!
