Fun new events to tickle your taste buds in 2019
As the snow creeps down the mountain and the bears finish fueling up before heading into hibernation, the foodies, oenophiles and booze buffs gather to celebrate Cornucopia, the beloved 11-day food and wine festival that descends on Whistler, much like that snow creeping down the mountain, each fall.
And like the bears fueling up, this festival brings together everyone that loves putting delicious things in their mouth as they sip, savour and sample their way through an ambitious itinerary of seminars, signature tastings, demonstrations, brunches, lunches, and events.
With over 100 events, where to begin? We thought we’d take a look at some of the fun new events that are going to tickle your taste buds in 2019:
- If you’re a fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race don’t miss Sashay, Fillet! A culinary extravaganza that will be serving fierce looks and fine food as drag queens pair up with chefs in a mingling of creative minds. Drag Race stars Jaidynn Diore Fierce and Laila McQueen emcee an incredible evening that will see Chefs and Queens compete in culinary and performance challenges. This will surely be an entertaining and spectacular evening… Shantay, you stay.
- Jump into the bubbly waters of Scandinave Spa with some bubbles of your own at the Scandinave Spa Bubble Bath. Sip champagne and graze canapes as you enjoy exclusive hydrotherapy bath access. Eating, drinking and relaxing in the oasis that is the Scandinave Spa? Yes, please!
- Celebrating and sharing the culture of the Squamish and Lil’Wat Nation through food and wine, Sp07ez Table luncheon at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre. Using traditional techniques with locally foraged foods, chefs prepare a four-course menu of modern plates paired with local Fort Berens Estate Winery selections. As you dine, stories and songs will be shared creating a remarkable Indigenous dining experience that celebrates our local First Nations.
- Bring balance back to your day and rinse your wine haze away with a brunch from the Nourish Series. In their Cornucopia Whistler debut, Olympian Britt Janyk Tilton and local food pioneer Astrid Cameron Kent deliver a nutritious, flavour-packed meal as they share their secrets to staying nourished and feeling energized. Fun Fuelling for Wellness and Strength will deliver nutrition, education and good, clean, fair food to your Cornucopia program and balance out some of your other indulgences over the course of the festival.
Speaking of indulging, those bears beefing up before hibernation aren’t concerned, so why should you be?
