Fa-La-La-La Fun! Enjoying the Holidays in Whistler
‘Tis the season for Christmas in Whistler! If the North Pole had a ‘twin city’ it would be Whistler, with our festively decorated town, twinkle lights, bells and wreaths covering every inch of the Village. Holiday cheer is tucked into every corner of our quintessential ski town. If you are bursting at the seams with the Christmas spirit, or even if you’re feeling a bit Grinch-y, here’s a quick guide for everything you can do this holiday season to make the most of this special time of year.
Ice Skating at Olympic Plaza
Slap on some blades and glide across our well-maintained rink in the heart of the village. With Christmas tunes a’blaring, this is the main hub for Christmas activity. Kids can enjoy free entertainment and activities during ‘Family Apres’ and skating is free or $6 for skate rentals. Are you like ‘Bambi’ on ice? Perhaps try tobogganing instead, there’s a purpose-built hill right beside the rink.
Daily: 11am – 1:30pm, 2:30pm – 5pm and 6pm– 8:30pm
Restricted holiday hours: December 24: 11am – 1:30pm, 2:30 – 5pm and 6 – 8pm, December 25: 12-4pm, December 31: 11am – 1:30pm, 2:30 – 5pm, and 6-10pm
Creekside Gingerbread House
It looks so good you could almost eat it! Head down to Creekside Village and visit their popular life-size gingerbread house. Kids can meet Santa too, while parents get gifts wrapped while they wait. If you’re a fan of ‘Games of Thrones’ make sure you head over on December 21st and 22nd for your chance to see Santa perched on the Iron Throne itself (or at least an official replica).
Daily December 14th-24th, 3pm–5pm, Weekends 3pm-6pm
Made in Whistler Market
If you’re last-minute scrambling for the perfect Christmas gift or Whistler momento, the Made in Whistler market has added additional dates. Fret no more as you meet local artisans and browse their wares in the Westin Resort & Spa, Whistler.
Runs December 15th, 22nd, 23rd, 27th and 28th.
Whistler Holiday Experience
If the kids are still in dire need to burn off the sugar from all the holiday treats, pop over to the Conference Centre and let them rip around the kid’s fun zone. Mini-golf, bouncy castles, crafts, games and more will give your little ones the chance to blow off some steam while mom and dad find solace in a hot cup of coffee.
Open daily from 10am–6pm (closed December 25th, open noon to 7pm on New Year’s Eve)
Christmas Eve Caroling
One of the best things that spreads Christmas cheer is song. A holiday tradition for 36 years, you can join the Whistler Children’s Chorus and Whistler Singers for traditional caroling of all your favourite holiday songs.
Westin Resort & Spa, Whistler, December 24th from 6:30-7:30 pm. Entry by donation.
Fire and Ice Show
One of Whistler’s holiday must-do’s, the Fire and Ice show is an exciting cap off to a day (or week) of outdoor fun. Watch Whistler’s best skiers and boarders rip down the base of the mountain and hurl themselves through a giant ring of fire. Fireworks and fire spinners make this event a spectacle not to be missed.
Every Sunday at 7pm, plus New Year’s Eve
New Year’s Eve
Roll it all into one and you’ve got one heck of a New Year’s Eve. Whistler celebrates New Year’s family-style with lots of action throughout the village. A special Family Apres kicks things off at noon in Olympic Plaza along with ice-skating all day, the Conference Centre has plenty of activities for the kiddos, and a special edition Fire and Ice with a blast of fireworks makes for the perfect ending.
We hope you experience and enjoy this magical time in Whistler.
Happy Holidays from Arts Whistler!
The Whistler Holiday Experience, New Year’s Eve, Skating at Whistler Olympic Plaza and Family Après are brought to you by the Resort Municipality of Whistler and the Province of BC.
