The Arts Whistler Gift Shop at the Maury Young Arts Centre
is your one-stop holiday shop!
Young or old, male or female, local or visitor. There’s one constant that we can all agree on – Christmas shopping ain’t easy! Even if you’re a die-hard fan of the holiday (you know the ones, their trees are already up in November and they’ve seen Elf over 100 times) or just a Die Hard fan (some say it’s a Christmas movie, you know) you could agree that even though it’s enjoyable seeking out the perfect gift for someone you love, battling crowds in a mall, trying to find parking and waiting in line ups that never seem to move is most certainly NOT enjoyable.
Bring on the Gift Shop at Maury Young Arts Centre. Run by Arts Whistler, this discreet, out-of-the-way spot houses creative, thoughtful and locally-made items that are perfect for gifting. Paintings, prints, jewelry, pottery, clothing and more. There are loads of choices for everyone on your list and don’t be surprised if you find something for yourself too.
You can find the gift shop right in the main lobby on the ground level of the Arts Centre. Barely through the door, you’ll see the sparkle of several local jewelry artists such as Skol Designs, Simply Sami and Mana Designs. These unique pieces are the perfect gift for that accessory obsessed person in your life.
With a turn of your head a Chili Thom painting will catch your eye. Here you can snag one of the infamous local’s legendary prints. You can find other available paintings and prints from celebrated Whistler artists Vanessa Stark, Lani Imre and Andrea Meuller. There’s nothing quite like a piece of Whistler on your wall to keep you inspired no matter where you live.
As you continue through this artful haven, browse the carefully spun pottery of Vincent Massey, delicately woven baskets by Cheryl Massey and intently carved wooden bowls from Peter Joachim Scheunert, the Kermode Carver.
Christmas is for the kids after all, and they are not certainly forgotten at the gift shop. Grab them a fun stuffy from Mountain Monsters or keep them busy with a special Whistler colouring book.
Wearable Whistler makes for a popular present, and you can find woven hats and scarves as well as printed t-shirts, caps and leggings. These exclusive pieces from Heidi the Artist, Vanessa Stark and Lani Imre, will surely please any fashionista on your list.
The Sea to Sky is filled with talented artists and wrapping up a handmade Whistler gift for someone you care about will be a sure-fire hit. Bonus: a portion of sales goes to support the Gallery at the Arts Centre, a community gallery that showcases local artists. So don’t be a Cotton-Headed Ninnymuggins- skip the city shopping bustle and do all your shopping at the Gift Shop at the Arts Centre!
