Mirna Valerio, a 250lb African American woman from Brooklyn, takes on Broken Arrow Sky Race in Squaw Valley, California.
Before exit restrictions and bans on contact dominate the news in March 2020, the Mountain Tribe Crew embarks on a ski touring adventure in the Ötztal Alps.
It is often said that the hardest part of any adventure is getting out the door. Planning and packing are tedious and time consuming. But the moment you cross over the threshold into the great outdoors, everything seems to just fall into place… Said no parent ever.
Crux follows Harvey, a recovering addict who uses rock climbing to work through his ongoing struggle with mental health. Life can be beautiful. Life can be messy. Add in the struggles of addiction and life can often become overwhelming. As trauma, depression, heartbreak and declining mental health were woven into Harvey Wright’s internal fabric, so was rock climbing.
Venture Out is a story of overcoming odds, the power of resilience, and ultimately, the ever-lasting effects of LGBTQ community-building. The Venture Out Project, founded by Perry Cohen, is a non-profit organization that brings LGBTQ folks together outdoors on wilderness trips.

Decker’s sharp, smart and observational hilarity paired with the highly silly and highly cerebral Demers make for a comedy double bill not to be missed!
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS:
Charlie Demers: Charlie Demers is an author of five books and a stand-up comedian. His collection of essays, Vancouver Special, was shortlisted for the Hubert Evans BC Book Prize for Non-Fiction. He is also the author of The Prescription Errors, The Horrors: An A to Z of Funny Thoughts on Awful Things and The Dad Dialogues co-written with George Bowering. Charlie’s latest book, the novel Property Values, was published in April 2018.
Demers has performed for national television and radio audiences and at the Just for Laughs Festival, and is one of the most frequently returning stars of CBC Radio’s smash-hit comedy show The Debaters.
Ivan Decker: Ivan Decker, originally from Vancouver, now Los Angeles- based, is a writer, stand-up comedian and actor, known for his sharp, polished, and multi-layered observational comedy. A force on the scene as one of Canada’s top comedians, Ivan Decker has become a favorite among audiences and comedians alike.
He has performed stand-up comedy across North America and can be seen and heard as a part of the popular CBC radio program “The Debaters”. Most recently, Ivan was named a “Comic To Watch” by TBS at the New York Comedy Festival, and subsequently made his U.S. television debut on “Conan.”
His fun and silly approach to stand up often reveals the humour hiding in the everyday trials of today’s young adult with careful dissection, brilliant timing and intelligent observation.
Ivan’s most recent comedy album “I Wanted to be a Dinosaur” won the 2018 Juno Award for Comedy Album of the Year. It can be heard on all major streaming platforms and is available on iTunes.
