Whistler Public Library and Armchair Books have joined forces to start a Community Book Club! Free and open to all, the club meets on the last Wednesday of each month. We read something for everyone: throughout the year, we’ll explore different genres and read books by authors with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Our choices might make you laugh, cry, or challenge a long-held belief, but whether you love or hate the book, we promise a lively, thought-provoking discussion. It might sound obvious, but we highly recommend you read the book to effectively engage in the conversation!
When: Wednesday, March 25, 7 p.m.
Where: Fireplace Lounge, Whistler Public Library
Who: Everyone welcome, no registration required
How much: Free
Which book: The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
Where to get a copy: Borrow at WPL or buy at Armchair Books (mention the book club and receive 15% off)
Synopsis: Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases—a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.
It doesn’t help that Stella has Asperger’s and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice—with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan—from foreplay to more-than-missionary position…
Read ahead: In April, we’ll discuss City of Thieves by David Benioff (this one is Dan’s Pick!), and in May, we’re reading Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
