The Alta Lake Station House is a historical building located on the shores of Alta Lake. During warmer months Arts Whistler hosts Art on the Lake Workshops and open house sessions at the house, where the quiet location and incredible views provide the perfect place for creative endeavours. The house can be accessed along the Valley Trail on foot or by bike.
If you’re registered for a workshop at the Alta Lake Station House, here’s some more information to make the most of your experience:
Alta Lake Station House is not directly accessible by car as it is located along the Valley Trail.
The best way to get there is to be dropped off at Wayside Park (look for a small sign on the highway), located 1km north of Creekside Village on the west side of Highway 99. From Wayside Park go left (south) on the Valley Trail, turn right (north) at the trail intersection that is adjacent to the railroad tracks, you will walk past the sculptural pinecone public art pieces and follow the Valley Trail parallel to the railroad tracks for 400m to the Alta Lake Station House. This is approximately a 10-15 minute walk in total.
Alternatively, you can access the Alta Lake Station House from Alta Lake Road which is along the west side of the valley. There is some parking near the Valley Trail entry point and the walk is approximately 400m in distance and takes 6-8 minutes.
A workshop assistant will meet participants at Wayside Park parking lot 30 minutes before the start of each workshop to assist with transporting supplies. The walk from the parking lot is approximately 10-15 minutes and we have one cart for heavy items. Please be prepared to carry some of your supplies and pack accordingly. If you are able to be dropped off and picked up or could arrive by another means (ex. via bicycle or walking along the lakeside path), please feel free to meet us at the house each morning.
Due to the location of Alta Lake Station House it is best to pack your own lunch and snacks. The venue is equipped with a full service kitchen, complete with stove and refrigerator for your use with tea and coffee provided.
