2022 Dates: September 1, 5, 15, 22, and 29
Website: www.artswhistler.com
History:
This new initiative celebrates Indigenous arts and knowledge. The Indigenous Knowledge Series is a five-part series of Indigenous performances, presentations and workshop activities including storytelling, cultural performances and traditional workshops. Every Thursday evening in September, Arts Whistler presents Indigenous workshops, performances, knowledge and storytelling in the Theatre at the Maury Young Arts Centre leading up to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The Indigenous Art series will celebrate Indigenous artistry and educate the community through story-telling, cultural performances and traditional workshops, all led by Indigenous practitioners. Through arts, culture and collaboration we aim to inspire systematic change in a path toward decolonization.
Key Facts and Figures:
- This series will be co-presented with the Lil’wat Nation’s Ts’zil Learning Centre. The Lil’wat Nation/Ts’zil cultural team will consult with Arts Whistler providing workshop ideas, and identifying the ideal workshop leaders from within the Lil’wat community.
- Five evenings of Indigenous knowledge sharing will involve 16 – 20 Indigenous practitioners, artists and performers.
