Celebrating Líl̓wat Arts and Culture

We live on the Líl̓wat Nation’s beautiful traditional territory – now discover the beauty of Líl̓wat artists at the Maury Young Arts Centre. Explore the arts traditions and cultural celebrations of our Indigenous neighbours. This exhibition celebrates the creative talents of the Líl̓wat Nation, showcasing contemporary Líl̓wat artists, carvers and artisans including carvers Jonathan Joe and Ashley Joseph, weaver Vera Edmonds, painters Rick Nelson and Levi Nelson and traditional regalia maker Lois Joseph.

The exhibition also features captivating photos from the Líl̓wat community’s cultural celebrations including the Líl̓wat Nation Rodeo, Powwows and other cultural gatherings, many by Pemberton photographer Simon Bedford.

All are invited to the exhibition’s opening reception on May 16, 2019. The evening will include official welcome songs from Líl̓wat leaders, delicious Indigenous-inspired appetizers courtesy of the Squamish Líl̓wat Cultural Centre, and a chance to meet some of the artists.
