WHISTLER, BC – The stage deck at the Maury Young Arts Centre is about to heat up as Arts Whistler launches Arts Whistler Live!, a live performance series jam-packed with sizzling music, captivating theatre, and hilarious comedy. With performances from November to March, Arts Whistler brings back some fan-favourites, not-to-be-missed new performances, and a guaranteed good time.
”There truly is something for everyone with Arts Whistler Live!, an eclectic mix of music, theatre and comedy with one vital thing in common – the performances are always excellent,” says Arts Whistler Executive Director, Mo Douglas. “While we all enjoy a good Netflix session, shake up those long winter nights with acclaimed live entertainment at the Arts Centre.”
Arts Whistler Live! Highlights:
Arts Whistler Live! kicks off on November 2 with Vancouver-based groove masters, Five Alarm Funk. With monster horns, crushing percussion, and shredding psych-rock guitars, these guys stir up a hot dance floor that gets feet stomping and everybody moving. Get the party started early with a drink in the Gallery bar and explore the new Yard Sale art exhibit and artist studio sale.
Vancouver TheatreSports League once again brings their award-winning improv comedy team to Arts Whistler Live! on January 25, 2018. Get ready to enjoy a night of gut busting laughter with improv comedy skits fuelled by local special guests that deliver edge-of-your-seat excitement. If you’ve never seen this world-renowned improv troupe perform before, you’re in for a fast-paced night of comedy you‘ll be talking about for weeks to come.
This one’s for the kids…AND for the big kids! Iconic Canadian children’s music performer Fred Penner will grace the Whistler stage with two performances. Fred’s children’s show will captivate the kids with his entertaining and empowering songs. The second, nighttime show is for his “young at heart” fans. Grab a beverage or two in The Gallery and get set for fun with Fred as he presents his grown-up take on your sing-along childhood favourites like “The Cat Came Back”, “Sandwiches”, “You Can Do It If You Try”, and “The Witch Doctor”. And you can tell your friends you had a beer with Fred Penner.
For 25 years, The Paperboys have been touring the world and lighting up stages with their freewheeling blend of influences from Celtic to bluegrass, brass bands to Canadian roots – and this December they’re bringing it all to the Whistler stage. Their energetic shows and impressive musicianship have earned them rave reviews around the globe. Their sound has been called everything from Cajun slamgrass to worldbeat, but they’re always a show you don’t want to miss.
