WHISTLER, BC – “When you take something from the earth, you must give something back.” This is the wisdom behind Axis Theatre’s family production of Th’owxiya: The Hungry Feast Dish coming to Arts Whistler Live! Sunday, February 18.

Six storytellers from the Kwantlen First Nations Village of Squa’lets spin the tale of Th’owxiya: The Hungry Feast Dish, a well-known tale told across Indigenous communities in northwestern Canada. The story has shades of the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale and the First Nations story of The Wild Woman of the Woods, told through mask and music.

The mouth of Th’owxiya holds the most wonderful foods from around the world. But, if you steal from her, you will pay a terrible price for Th’owxiya eats children! When a brave young mouse takes a piece of cheese from Th’owxiya, he is caught. To appease the ogress, he must find two young spirits to sacrifice to her before the moon rises or she will eat his whole family! With the help of two Bears, a Raven and a Sasquatch, the Mouse sets forth on a journey for knowledge and forgiveness.

Watch this classic myth come to life through mask and music while learning the traditions and stories of BC’s First Nations. It’s an engaging show for the whole family.
