FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, August 28, 2015

WHISTLER, BC – For 40 days, 40 local artists will display their work in this exhibit at Millennium Place, sharing anecdotes and important moments from Whistler’s rich history to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Resort Municipality of Whistler.

From First Nations communities to loggers, adventure-seekers, artists, squatters, hippies and business people, people from many different walks of life have shaped this town into the unique place that it is today. In this exhibition, forty members of our creative community have come together to share their stories and memories through written word, paintings, sculpture, fibre arts, architectural drawings and photography.  Some artists have created new works just for this exhibit; others have submitted work that tells a story from days gone by, or even a story about themselves and why they call Whistler home. Each piece is accompanied by a written piece that tells a story about their work.

According to the exhibit’s curator, Andrea Mueller, “Everyone has their own Whistler story to tell, whether they have been here for a year or for several decades. As we celebrate four decades of this unique place, we reflect upon our similarities and our differences and recognize that there is something here which forges a common bond among us. All the different perspectives included in this exhibit show that, while the Whistler we know and love was built by people from many different walks of life, there is something intangible, often unspoken, that connect us, and keeps us here.”
