FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, January 18
WHISTLER, BC – Get to know Whistler’s emerging young artists. Whistler Secondary School’s annual group exhibition Personal Projections showcases the work of senior art students in The Gallery at the Arts Centre.
For many of the students this is their first public art showing and most of the works on display are for sale. “It’s pretty exciting to see all our hard work getting showed off,” says Ollie, one of the artists in the show. “Art is important to have in school because it brings out a creative side of students that other subjects just don’t fulfill.”
Throughout the process, the students learn how to hang a gallery show, work closely with galleries and their curators, and get to explore what it’s like to be a professional, working artist.
Throughout the course of the past semester, the students created projects and explored a range of different techniques and mediums. The work on display is a result of their final assignment which was to create a “Major Personal Project” allowing them to create work using their preferred medium. The result is a diverse and impressive display of student art including acrylic paintings, drawings, and mixed media.
Don’t miss your chance to meet these young, emerging artists at the gallery opening Thursday, January 19. The exhibition will be on display at The Gallery at the Arts Centre until February 7.
