On the Cover
With a record number of submissions received, there was an overwhelming variety of artwork from which to choose the cover art for 2019’s Winter Arts Scene. The work of two different artists were selected, both capturing the spirit of the season of snow.
On the front cover readers are greeted by Meghan Spence’s painting “First Tracks” – a snapshot of a day of back-country skiing. The piece is part of a series focusing on reclaiming the feeling of belonging in nature.
The back cover features Mary Pine’s “Callaghan Magic,” which is inspired by many incredible days spent cross-country skiing in the Callaghan Valley, and reflects the tremendous beauty of Whistler’s deep, silent valleys, where pristine waters run year-round beneath pillows of untouched pow.
Keep an eye on the Arts Whistler blog in the coming days as both of these talented artists are featured in the Artist Conversations series.
Pick up a free copy of the 2019 Winter Arts Scene at the Maury Young Arts Centre or other cultural partners and businesses throughout the Sea to Sky until April 30.
