Ellyn is a self-taught woodworker who upcycles scrap wood into one-of-a-kind art pieces and home decor. Her workshop is located on the Coast Salish territories of the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw in Brackendale, BC. She found her passion for woodworking in 2020 after exploring many different creative mediums and career paths. Her work explores the beauty of nature and the interconnectedness of all things.
Her creative process begins with pencil or digital drawings that are inspired by all of the mountains, forests and wild things found on the west coast. She then uses a variety of saws, sanders and carving tools to create her designs in wood. Each piece is carefully crafted by hand, from scraps - no fancy automated machines in this shop! Everything is hand painted with acrylics, milk paints and sealed with natural wood finishes.
She strives to minimize her impact on the environment by salvaging wood and by using non-toxic, eco-safe paints and wood finishes. A portion of every purchase is donated to support Tree Canada's efforts to grow better places to live.
