Lani focuses her work on large-scale paintings, depicting an entourage of virtualized female characters. The strong, often defiant women she creates touch on themes of female identity and sexual fantasy while posing commentary on the contradictions evoked by media environments and visual messaging. Through both sexualizing and asserting the postures of her characters, she makes gesture to assumed qualities of feminine vulnerability as well as independence. Lani has exhibited in Canada as well as Mexico and the United States. Her degrees include a diploma from Kootenay School of the Arts and a BFA from NSCAD University. She has also attended Concordia University in Montreal and completed a semester of independent study in Berkeley, California. Lani’s primary residence is in Squamish, BC.
