Arts Whistler Statement on the Discovery of Children’s Remains at the Kamloops Indian Residential School Site.
Arts Whistler stands with the Indigenous communities of Canada in mourning the horrifying discovery of 215 children, uncovered by the Tk’emlups te Secwépemc First Nation at the Kamloops Indian Residential School site.
We recognize that this directly impacts our friends and neighbours in the Lil’wat Nation and Squamish Nation. Please know that you are in our hearts, with love, compassion and support for healing. It is our hope that creativity and the arts can be one element in helping every Indigenous community heal from these wounds. We support the 94 recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and will continue to take action on recommendations involving culture, arts and education.
The tragedies of our colonial history need everyone’s support to actively heal, through truth, reconciliation, relationship-building and love.
The time is now.
