a/New Gallery Exhibit

Two performers. Two women. Two dresses. Two streaks of white paint. Two cameras. Two self-portraits, Two poems from Two countries, across One border, under One new moon for the duration of a year.
a/New is a creative collaboration between Bronwyn Preece and Rosemary Candelario that began in June 2021. Each month, at the precise moment of the new moon, they captured black-and-white self-portraits, both dressed in identical white slips, each marked by a single streak of white paint. Along with the coordinates of their locations, they sent these images to one another, inspiring haikus written in immediate response. This year-long dialogue explores themes of female representation, identity, and the relation to landscape, culminating in a refined multimedia installation blending photography, poetry, and performance into a contemplative exploration of self and place.
