Mountain Galleries at the Fairmont

Mountain Galleries at the Fairmont

Mountain Galleries is a proud member of Arts Whistler’s We Heart Local Art program, which matches local businesses with local artists so that they can showcase their art on the walls of the business. Search our Culture Maps by “Businesses with local art” to see whose art is featured where. See something you like? All the art pieces are for sale. Arts Whistler doesn’t take a commission, we just want to promote local artists and businesses, because, well, that’s our jam.

Mountain Galleries at the Fairmont: Located in the Upper VIllage, the Mountain Galleries at the Fairmont collection represents major and mid career artists, with a mission to support and promote Canadian artists. The Galleries host regular exhibitions with opening receptions and has a regular artist-in-residence program that provides accommodation and studio space to practicing artists, providing many opportunities to meet and watch artists at work throughout the year.  mountaingalleries.com

Check out work by local artist:

Doria Moodie: She is a full-time artist based in Whistler, BC represented by Mountain Galleries at the Fairmont Hotels in Whistler, Banff and Jasper.  She is a strong advocate for BC bears (black bears, spirit bears and grizzlies) and has spent many days observing them in the wild in order to paint large, intimate portraits of them. Doria was the artist in residence last June at Knight Inlet Lodge, an exceptional spot to learn about and view grizzlies in the wild, and she’ll return there this summer. She is the official artist for the Grizzly Bear Foundation (GBF), and has just been appointed to the GBF Board. Doria also paints children, especially groups of little skiers that evoke a story, as well as landscapes, trying for fresh perspectives on the beauty in our environment. She is an associate member (AFCA) of the Federation of Canadian Artists and a founding member of Whistler Out-of-Bounds artists. Her work is in collections around the world.

Andrea Moore: She is a West Coast native who grew up as a regular BC kid: skiing, camping, playing piano and watching the Brady Bunch. She has always been keenly aware of her creative vision and upon introduction to the art world, she has leaned fully into her fascination with painting bringing to it a powerful focus. While actively practising as a registered massage and craniosacral therapist, Andrea continuously explores and improves her skills and approach to painting through select workshops with Brian Atyeo, Mike Svob, Brent Lynch and many others. Andrea paints mainly in Whistler and Pemberton, BC where she falls in love again and again with the shape, light, and colour that life and the natural panorama has to offer. Acrylic is Andrea’s preferred medium, lending itself well to her gestural, loose interpretation of landscape, animals and everyday life. Andrea is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and a founding member of the Whistler Out of Bounds Artists Group.

Sharon Smith: Born and raised in Vancouver BC, Sharon was inspired to draw and paint the stunning west coast landscape she grew up in.

Excelling in the arts in high school, Sharon went on to explore fine arts at a local College. Discovering a love for the history of design and architecture, she completed an Associated Arts degree in Interior design. She soon realized her true passion for drawing and painting could not be quelled.

Obtaining a BFA and graduating with distinction from San Francisco’s Academy of Art College in 1988. she was honoured to have a small series selected to show in the annual New York Society of Illustrators Show. Later returning to her home in Vancouver, Sharon promptly attained representation in communication arts as a freelance illustrator. She worked for over ten years in the industry commissioned by many notable corporations and clients. While raising her family in Whistler, she carried on her passion for painting participating in numerous group shows and workshops.

Her extensive art and illustration background bring a strong skill set to her subjects. Painting primarily in oils, she is currently focusing her energy interpreting the local scenery, wildflowers and bears. Sharon is very proud to be represented by Mountain Galleries.
