Explore & Experience Whistler – Village Animation

Prepare to be entertained!

From live and local music and demonstrations from local artists to marching bands and professional dancers, Whistler Village is bustling with free street entertainment all summer long. Throughout July and August, enjoy all the animation on the village stroll including live music, dance, circus & outdoor theatre shows, arts & crafts for kids, wellness activities, and live art competitions. Your time in Whistler isn’t complete without the creative experiences provided by both local and touring entertainment through Explore & Experience Whistler.

Dates: July 1 until August 30 | Wednesday – Saturday in July | Sunday – Tuesday in August.

 Arts Whistler programs and manages Explore & Experience Whistler on behalf of the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW).

LIVE & LOCAL: Jefferson Correa

Jefferson Correa was born on June 27, 1996 in Quito, Ecuador, from a very young age his aptitude for music was noted. He started singing at the age of 7, at 22 he was already playing the guitar and decided to lean continue with that instrument. At the age of 17, he discovered that he had the gift of composing, he decided to put his feelings into words and transform them into songs. On September 27, 2020, he released his first single called “El Malo”, thus being the first popular music artist in Ecuador and thus reviving the Mariachi again, fused with Norteño music and together with an extra instrument that identifies it in its genre: The Accordion.

NZR Productions

NZR Productions is an international production company focussing on specialty acts and stage shows. Currently in production is acclaimed “Lumadrome” and the infamous “Stilt-Bikes”. NZR has over 20 years of experience and has had performances all over the world ranging from Olympic events, circus shows and fairs/festivals…NZR Productions has some stellar performers ranging from Cirque Du Soleil Alumni, Theatre Actors and Opera singers!

Nice Verdes
1:00pm & 3:00pm/ Town Plaza
Nice Verdes have always been on some kind of adventure in search of new inspiration and music. Their music is a sunny and uplifting mixture of originals and traditional folk music from Cuba, Colombia, and beyond. They play combinations of Cuban tres, accordions, guitar, harmonica, and vocals. Inspired musically by their travels around the world, they defy genres to create their own indie world folk. Over the years the duo has been on the road in Australia and Canada playing numerous venues and festivals. In Australia, festival highlights include Cygnet, Wallaby Creek, Nannup, and Illawarra, and in Canada, Kispiox, Arts Wells, Robson Valley, Edge of the World, and Quadrapalooza. They were also invited in 2017 to perform in Valledupar, Colombia at the UNESCO declared festival ‘Encuentro Vallenato Femenino’. They have also completed tours of Europe and New Zealand and played cafes and bars on the streets of Latin America.

PAINT & CREATE: Lani Imre

Lani paints in a contemporary style that reflects aspects of illustration, graphics, and street art. She focuses on large-scale oil and acrylic paintings depicting an entourage of female characters. The strong, often defiant characters she creates, touch on themes of female identity and sexual fantasy, while posing commentary on the contradictions evoked by media environments and visual messaging.

PAINT & CREATE: Bryony Dique
1:00pm-4:00pm/ Village Square
Bryony is a self-taught artist who moved to Whistler from the UK. She paints in a style that combines hyper realism and surrealism in gouache and acrylic, illustrates in graphite pencil and ink, and also creates abstract pieces with alcohol ink. She is also a photographer and has travelled the world taking photos of different landscapes and people from all cultures. Her main passion is painting animals and is currently working on a half-face Canadian animal collection, including animals seen locally to Whistler.

 

Monday, August 22nd

LIVE & LOCAL: Chris Sloane

Chris Sloane is a Canadian singer-songwriter, artist and the voice behind Chris Sloane and the Small Town Runaways. Born and raised in the rural town of Erin, Ontario, she has been a fixture in venues up and down the Sea to Sky corridor on the West Coast of Canada for the better part of a decade. 

LIVE & LOCAL: DJ PRAIZ

Dj Praiz was born in east L.A and grew up in Montreal, Canada. He was raised and influence by traditional Hip Hop culture. He is now living in Squamish, BC, innovating music w turntablism. He will be pumping the music for Bell Helmet Paint Off.

Come and witness local artists transform a uniquely whistler canvas, a Bell full face bicycle helmet! Locals, Dave Petko, Cary Campbell Lopes and Paulo Lopes will be working in the medium of their choice to create these one-of-a-kind works of art. This event will be held in front of Fanatyk co on Monday and Tuesday from 1-5pm! See you there.

A singer-songwriter who shows his talent in every iota of his performance, Erik “Big Love” Van Meerbergen unites feel-good rock classics, anthemic modern hits, and his own brand of country energy. Originally hailing from London Ontario, Big Love and his Big Love Band have become a reliable staple in Whistler and wider British Columbia.

With close to 15 years of experience behind the decks, Whitness has a passion for playing soulful, heart-warming music. She loves to read the room and create the perfect vibe with her tune selections whether it’s a lounge gig, a club gig, or a festival. Her favourite genres to play are house, lounge, old school hip hop, funk, soul, and liquid drum & bass … all the things! She has opened for the Stanton Warriors, S.P.Y, and tagged with P. Digsss from Shapeshifter to name a few. Join DJ Whitness as she hits the decks for our Bell Helmet Paint Off!
