Artist Conversations: Janice Robertson

Artist Conversations: Janice Robertson

“I love spending time with a group of painters. I find it fascinating to discover each person’s individual approach to their paintings.
Everyone is unique.”

Join artist Janice Robertson for a fun weekend of painting at her upcoming workshop: Beautiful Things: Still Life in Acrylics, May 26-27

This workshop will cover techniques for painting flowers, fruit, and other interesting objects in an impressionistic style. There will be an emphasis on composition, brushwork, and colour mixing. Students may work from their own reference source, or use the ones provided.

If you want to learn how to take your painting to the next level or just want to play and develop your style, a class with Janice Robinson is the way to go. Her bio is nothing short of impressive…and inspiring:  “Janice is a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Landscape Artists International, the Northwest Watercolor Society. She is also an annual painter at Painters events in Campbell River BC since 2004. Janice served as President of the Federation of Canadian Artists from 1999 to 2001. She is listed in Who’s Who in Canada, and her paintings are in collections throughout the world. She is also a popular and well-respected workshop instructor and juror.”

We had the chance to ask Janice a few questions about her upcoming Art on the Lake workshop and get to know her better – plus it’s always so inspiring to see photos of the creative dens where painters bring their ideas to life!

Who or what has been the biggest influence you in terms of your work:

My husband and my sister are both very well respected artists and have always been a part of my artistic journey.

Tell us one thing people might not know about you:

I love people, but probably love animals more.

What is your favourite part about being an instructor:

I love spending time with a group of painters. I find it fascinating to discover each person’s individual approach to their paintings . Everyone is unique.

What do you like most about teaching in Whistler at the lake house:

The setting is amazing and really contributes to the flow of creativity for the group. I love the energy and natural beauty of Whistler.

Give us one tip to share that you think will help improve someone’s work:

Learn the principals of design and value – that is where many paintings don’t hold up.

Thank you Janice!

We’re so looking forward to spending a sunny weekend learning how to paint still lifes.
